Supporting Models

As Microsoft promised earlier, we have now the full set of MS office package for Symbian Belle supporting smart phones. Following are the supporting models as listed in the documentation:

It was very disheartening to find Nokia N8 missing from the list. The Nokia E6 too has some issues with the resolution settings required to run this App.

Availability

The MS Office applications will soon be available for download from the Nokia OVI store. You can update your firmware for the supporting devices and it will some preloaded with the updated firmware. The two update applications are –

1. Word Mobile
2. PowerPoint Mobile
3. Excel Mobile

With the new Office Apps you can easily manage word documents, power point slides, Excel data and all other associated services. Being the official software build these apps are more or less similar to the same functionalities and working style of the desktop version.

Symbian users had been left out in the competition for a proper Office app and this new addition to the closet sure brings in smile to the loyal Symbian users. Nokia is trying hard to gain back the lost reputation and we can just hope it sure does in the end.

Mactheripper 2.6.6 is the current public release version of the application while Mactheripper’s latest version is 4.1.5. The latter can be downloaded from the MTB-4 forum which can be accessed only after registering and getting approved by the administrator. Because of some legal issues Mactheripper 3.0 and higher version (Mactheripper 4.0) are not free and are sold for an undisclosed sum of money.

Ripping DVD To iPod, iPhone and iPad Using Mactheripper

• Download and Install Mactheripper
• Insert DVD disc into your Mac computer and launch the application
• Select the type of extraction and then go back to the “Disc” tab and click ” Go” button to start extraction.

After the extraction is over, you need to find a folder in the save location. The files extracted by Mactheripper are saved in .VOB format.

MacTheRipper on Snow Leopard & Lion

MacTheRipper 2.6.6 (free version) does not work on Mac OS X Lion or Snow Leopard.  However, its privately released paid versions are released in MTR form which does work on all Mac OS platforms including Lion. Once you purchase the software, an option to download the MTR is there. MacTheRipper 3.0 (or later) works on Snow Leopard.

Post this version release, the developers made this is a paid software and also made the whole application very secretive, even not disclosing its price to general public.

Mactheripper Alternatives

Some of the alternative programs to Mactheripper are

• DVDFab DVD/HD Decrypter

• CloneDVD

Being a privately developed and supported application, its updates are really hard to get. This is perhaps the only major disadvantage of this utility apart from its confusing user interface. However, Mactheripper is a great utility which allows you to rip DVDs and enjoy movies in your leisure time.

With this tool you can extract, and repack ROFS2 and UDA files.

1. Download and extract tool.
2. Open tool.
3. Click “Open” button and select rofs2 or uda file
4. Click “Extract” button
5. Files will be extracted to:
a. for rofs2 file “rofs2″ folder
b. for uda file “fat16″ folder
6. Edit your files (don’t close NokiaEditor):
a. for rofs2 open “rofs2″ folder and edit files
b. for uda open “fat16.img” in “fat16″ folder and edit it with magiciso or winimage
7. After you edited files click “Repack” button
8. Repacked files are in program folder:
a. REB-RM************.rofs2.*** for rofs2 file
b. REB-RM***********.uda.***    for uda file
9. Rename files (delete “REB-” at the beginning of file name) :
a. REB-RM************.rofs2.*** to RM************.rofs2.*** for rofs2 file
b. REB-RM***********.uda.***     to RM***********.uda.***    for uda file
10. Flash you phone with new files
11. DONE

Tips for editing ROFS2 and UDA files:

If you want to add RP+ to your rofs2 file copy only “patcher.ldd” and “patcherShadow.ldd” to sys/bin folder. After flashing install RP+ LiteVersion.

If you want to edit files that are in rofs1 image – copy them to rofs2 folder and edit they will be overwriten after flashing.
Example: if you want to edit file swipolicy.ini (that file is in rofs1) copy swipolicy.ini to rofs2 folder (system/data) and edit – Repack and flash.

Remember that rofs2 file have maximum size (about 33mb) so if you don’t have space for your files,mods just delete other language files from rofs2 folder.

Tool tested with 5530, 5800 files!!! I think it will also work with N97 files and others, it will not work with E51 files!!! Not working for your Phone ?? write to me and ill try to add support for your phone

Other minor changes would be this new X6 brings back the old video editor which was missing in all the S60 v5 devices but was seen in the older devices like N95.

lets hope at least the rumored C3 and C5 brings something new to the table other then just remix of the older model.
I seriously think Nokia needs to understand that it is not about storage space but the processor and ram.
